Ichigo Kurousaki is the second substitute soul reaper the 13 courtyard squads have encountered. The first substitute soul reaper, Kugo Ginjo, was banished from the soul society and was forced to live in the outerworld(Earth). Ginjo is now part of a group called the Xcution, a group of individuals who have lost their soul reaper powers and have learned to use a technique called fullbring, which is similar to soul reaper powers. When the second substitute soul reaper(Ichigo Kurousaki) got his powers from Rukia Kuchki, a noble member of the Kuchki clan, the 13 courtyard sqauds would have to destroy him, but when they saw how powerful Ichigo was, they made him even more powerful in order for him to defeat Ginjo. Unfortunately, Ichigo already lost powers from the fight with Sosuke Aizen, a high ranking soul reaper, so Kisuke Urahara, a former captain of the gotei 13, asked head captain Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto to put all of the Spirit energy in all the captains and luetenants in the sword in order for Ichigo to gain back his powers. After Ichigo gained his powers back, he sucessfully defeated Kugo Ginjo.
